Reporting Harassing Content on Facebook

Here's how to report harassing content on Facebook:

Reporting Harassment

To report a post, comment, or profile for harassment:

  • Go to the harassing post, comment, or profile.

  • Click the three dots (...).

  • Select "Find support or report post".

  • Follow the on-screen instructions, providing details.

Facebook will then guide you through a series of steps, which may vary slightly depending on the specific content you're reporting. Generally, these steps include:
  1. Specifying the problem: You'll be asked to choose the category that best describes the issue (e.g., "Harassment," "Bullying," "Hate speech").

  2. Providing more detail: You might be asked to provide more specific information about the harassment, such as:

    • Who is being targeted?

    • Is it directed at you or someone else?

    • What type of harassment is it?

  3. Explaining the context: You'll have the opportunity to explain in your own words how the content is harassing and why it violates Facebook's Community Standards.

  4. Submitting the report: After reviewing the information you've provided, you can submit your report to Facebook for review.

What Happens After You Report

Facebook will review the report to determine if it violates their Community Standards.

Details to Include in Your Report

When reporting harassment, provide as much information as possible, including:

  • Specific examples of the harassing behavior.

  • Who is being targeted.

  • How the content violates Facebook's standards.

  • Any relevant context.

Additional Considerations
  • Anonymity: Facebook doesn't typically allow anonymous reporting.

  • Harassment in messages: You can report harassing messages within the Messenger app using the same general reporting process.

  • Notification: Facebook does not always notify the person who was reported, but in some cases, they may.

  • Appealing decisions: If you disagree with Facebook's decision, you may be able to appeal it.

  • Blocking: Blocking can prevent further contact from the person you reported.

  • Past instances: You can and should report past instances of harassment, especially if they contribute to an ongoing pattern.

  • Threats of harm: If you feel your safety is threatened, contact law enforcement in addition to reporting on Facebook.
